Belgian election results can be viewed on a variety of sites, including De Standaard. In Flanders, with 94% of ballots counted:
- 26.1 % CD&V-NVA (Catholic party + allies)
- 24.0 % Vlaams Blok (far-rightists)
- 19.8 % VLD (liberal-democrats)
- 19.6 % Socialists and allies
- 07.6 % Greens
The Vlaams Blok actually came out the largest party in Antwerp and Flemish Brabant. All established parties try to ignore the elephant in the room (if non-leftist), or try to muzzle anybody who opens their mouth as a "pachydermophobe" (if leftists and/or watermelons). Guess who laughs all the way to the bank....
I did not cast an expat ballot, both because I have moral issues with the very concept of an expat vote, and since I would not know who to vote for in any case. (I can't even write in our dog --- who is at least as qualified to be minister of defense or foreign affairs as the incumbent Clowns from Planet UrAnus --- since Belgian ballots do not allow for write-in candidates.) I could discuss the disadvantages of the various political parties if I had another ten hours to spare...
